Heather and I headed out relatively early this morning as
we wanted to do a walk of the Myers Park Historic District, where our
accommodation is. As it gets pretty hot here as the day wears on, an early start
seemed sensible. We had a booklet of a guided walk all around the area. It was
very good and explained how this whole area was a special housing development
in the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s. Many of the homes were adjoining the golf course
and owned and built by famous people of Tallahassee. We returned later in the
morning and the boys had been relaxing in preparation for their game of golf. The
boys dropped Heather and me off at the Museum of Florida History before they
headed back to the golf course. This free museum was magnificent and we spent
several hours there learning about Florida from the Ice-age to the present day.
From here we walked to the Knott House Museum, another free museum. Heather and
I were the only people there for the 2pm tour and so we had a fantastic,
personalised tour of this lovely old house, built in 1843 and preserved just as
it was in 1928, by the Knott family. We walked back to our accommodation from
here and about an hour later the boys arrived home from golf. They had really
enjoyed themselves despite the heat and humidity. Heather and I had discovered a
lovely restaurant in the nearby, Cascade Park. It was called “The Edison” as it
was in a very old electricity building. We talked the boys into going there for
dinner and had a delicious meal. It was a lovely way to finish a great day.
Paul and I played golf at the Capital Hill Country Club
today. The course was in wonderful condition but very few were playing, and it
was a Saturday!! Found out that not too many play, and most either play early
or late due to the heat and humidity. Golf was fun, lots of grass, but once off
the fairway the first cut was long and very hard to find the ball. Had a drink
in the bar afterwards with about 10 blokes, they were eating smoked BBQ ribs,
they offered us some, outstanding.
