Day 66 2/9 Sunday, Tallahassee to Mobile (almost)

We had a “driving” day today as we are making our way to New Orleans. We decide to take a more scenic route along the coast and this proved to be a good idea, to start with. The coastal road was quiet and very beautiful. Close to a little spot called Lanark Village we stopped at a lovely park and jetty. The park had only been open for 4 weeks and we watched and spoke to 2 guys fishing off the jetty. One had already caught a huge redfish and we watched the other guy bring one in. We couldn’t believe that fish this size could be caught so close to shore. The park had been built using compensation money from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Continuing on our way we arrived at a very busy spot for lunch, Panama City Beach. It was like our Gold Coast on steroids. People everywhere, traffic jams, huge high-rise buildings etc. It was very hot but a storm was brewing. We decided to try to get away from this area as soon as possible but we were not quick enough to escape the weather. Rob had to drive through torrential rain with the temperature still sitting in the high 80’s F. Our Airbnb is at a beautiful little place about 15km from Mobile. We are staying at the Fish River Christmas Tree Farm Cabins. We are surrounded by hundreds of Christmas trees of varying sizes. Our cabin is quite luxurious and we are very comfortable.
