We were leaving Boston today and flying to Buffalo where we
had organised to pick up a car and drive a short distance into Canada to
Niagara on the Lake. As we needed to be out of our accommodation by 10am, we
arrived at the airport quite early for our 2pm flight. All went smoothly
although our plane was delayed by 10 minutes. We were all boarded, seatbelts
done up etc. when the captain came on to tell us there appeared to be a serious
problem with the plane that needed to be fixed. We had to all get off and were
told we would be updated. Two hours passed and we were still waiting with Rob
sending messages to our next Airbnb host to let her know we were not sure when
we’d make it to Niagara on the Lake. While waiting, Delta air were having all
sorts of problems with planes that were due to be arriving from New York.
Apparently there were severe thunderstorms there and so the planes were not
allowed to take off. People in Boston were waiting for flights to other places
on planes that had not arrived from New York. It is getting very crowded with
flights being delayed all over the place. We have been offered snacks and have
just been told that we need a new (replacement) plane! A new plane will be
available at 7.45pm….we hope. I’ll update later if this doesn’t happen.
We made it! Our plane arrived in Buffalo around 9.15pm. We
picked up our luggage and then went to collect our car. That all went
reasonably well although we chose a Jeep and it is a little tight when all of
the luggage is in the back. So we took off. Rob was driving on the right hand
side of the road, in a left hand drive car, at night for the first time in his
life and I was navigating. All went well as the roads were reasonably quiet due
to the time of day. Unfortunately when hit the border, the wait to get through
the line was long and we spent at least 30 minutes there. Once through we drove
on to our stunning Airbnb in Niagara on the Lake. Our host, Angela had waited
up to greet us(around 11.45pm) and help us settle in. She lives in the basement
and has her own facilities except for the kitchen. We have the rest of the
house to ourselves. It is something like you would find in a “Home Beautiful”
magazine. Just stunning.
