The warm, humid weather continues to be a feature of our US
holiday and so we have been trying to choose activities that will not make us
too hot. Today we decided to explore the many beautiful beaches and waterways
close to Tampa. We drove over several bridges and causeways, passing many
marinas and high-end holiday accommodation. The names of some of these places include,
Treasure Island, Paradise Island, Isle of Capri etc. We found two lovely spots
to swim at, our favourite being Clearwater Beach. We can now say we have swum
in both the Atlantic Ocean in Florida and The Gulf of Mexico. This area just
happened to be not too far from The Tropicana Baseball Field and the Tampa Bay
Rays just happen to be playing there all this week! Rather than drive all the
way back home we decided to find somewhere for tea and then head to the
baseball. We had a delicious dinner at the Burg Bar and Grill which was just
around the corner from the Baseball stadium. The Tropicana Stadium is a
completely indoor stadium so this was to be a new experience for us. We had no
problems getting a park and great tickets. For some reason the Tampa people don’t
like attending the games unless someone like the Redsox are playing. There were
probably only 3,000 people at the most in this huge stadium. They even have “tarps”
covering some of the seats! (Just like port power had, comment Rob) We watched was a great game of MBL in
air-conditioned comfort, with excellent seats! Tampa Rays beat the Kansas
Royals 6 to 3.
