As we have 5 full days in Tampa we were in no hurry this
morning to be anywhere in particular so we had a lazy start to the day. We have
a lovely Airbnb here. It’s a small 2 bedroom cottage. The owner, Graham and his
wife and baby live next door and own another small cottage on the property that
they also rent out as an Airbnb. He is a doctor doing his residency nearby. He
met us yesterday and gave us some good advice and local knowledge. We are only
about 11 minutes’ drive to downtown Tampa and also the harbour-side. We drove
in to the harbour area to see the American Victory Ship and Museum. This ship
was built in only 55 days in 1945 and is one of only 4 fully operational WW11
merchant ships in the US. We enjoyed touring all over this ship and learning
about it, despite the heat…again. Following this we headed into the main part
of town and found a cafĂ© that cooked “southern style” food for lunch. We then
went for walk around own and called into the Tourist Centre to find out some
more info. We headed back home and spent the late afternoon and evening
watching movies in the cool and sorting out some of our movements for the next
few days.
