Rob was in need of a haircut so one of the things he
thought he might do on this our final day in Tampa was to find a barber. We had
attempted to do this late yesterday before going to the baseball but all the
barbers we visited were very busy. Now before I go on I must give a little
information about the area we are staying in. It is in a part of Tampa called
Southeast Seminole Heights. We are very happy with our accommodation but you
wouldn’t say that this area is the “high-end” of town. There appeared to be
many dubious going-ons at the local service station and the local mega-Walmart has
the police there full time. We spoke to an ex-police officer at the Tampa Police
Museum yesterday and he raised his eyebrows when we said where we were staying
and knew all about what happened around here. Across the road from us is a
lovely little cottage, proudly flying the flag of the USA and on the porch
there is a lovely outdoor couch with cushions on it. The cushions say “F*#*#
Trump”. When we have spoken to people about where we are staying, they all raise
their eye-brows but we have not had any issues. We really feel quite safe
because there are so many police around! We visited some lovely markets in the
Ybor historic area this morning and from there finally found a shopping mall
(mainly to keep cool) after several attempts. We kept looking out for barbers
but had no luck. Rob and Paul have now gone off to the local barber, Diamond
Cuts Barber Shop. Rob and I called in there yesterday but they were very busy.
I didn’t feel that safe staying in the car and went in. The shop was huge and
there were about 6 barbers working, shaving heads, putting patterns on guy’s
heads etc. There was also a pool table in the shop. Rob and I were the only
ones who had pale skin….can I say that? Well Rob has gone back there again this
afternoon and has taken Paul with him as his body-guard. It will be interesting
to see what he looks like when they come back……if they come back….
