We were up far too early for our liking, 3 AM and arrived
at Adelaide Airport by 4.30 ready for our 6.30 AM departure. Our first leg was
Adelaide to Hong Kong which took about 9 hours. We arrived in Hong Kong and had
about a 10 hour “stop-over”. We decided to stay in the terminal and spent our
time reading, walking, people watching and getting bored. Back on the next
plane we were ready to take-off around 11 PM. Unfortunately a problem with both
the air-conditioning and air supply to the engine meant we sat on the tarmac
for nearly 3 hours. This long 12 hour flight now was even longer due to this
delay. Arriving in Munich in the morning, we had already missed our connecting
flight to Charles De Gaul but luckily were put on the next available flight and
given a voucher (enough to buy a coffee) for our trouble. Once at Charles De
Gaul airport we collected our luggage and took a train into Paris to meet Lyn
and Steve and then catch another train out to the rural area of Normandy to the
town of Pontorson. There were a few little hic-cups along the way but we
arrived at our B’nB around 8 PM. Luckily it is still light here until about 10
PM so we wandered down the very pretty streets of Pontorson and found a
restaurant. We enjoyed a magnificent dinner and then returned to our
accommodation for a much needed good night’s sleep. We are staying in a very
old and tiny apartment in the main street. It is 3 levels high. Level 1 is
Kitchen, meals and lounge area plus a toilet that is sort of in a cupboard! Up
some very steep, narrow stairs leads to a bedroom and a bathroom, including
another toilet and up some even steeper and narrower stairs (more like a
ladder) to an attic area which has the 2nd bedroom. I didn’t even
attempt to take my suitcase up the stairs as this would have been an accident
waiting to happen.
