Our accommodation in Bayeux is within walking distance of
many of the places of interest so after breakfast we headed out on foot to
explore. We walked down to the main shopping street and all noticed a stunning patisserie
that we would return to for lunch! The boys visited the magnificent cathedral
that Lyn and I had visited yesterday. We
then caught the Bayeux mini-train which took us on a tour of the historic areas
of Bayeux. Bayeux was miraculously spared from bombing during WW2 so is a beautiful,
historic city with magnificent buildings. It also has quite a few museums based
around the D-Day landing and the Normandy Campaign. During our tour we hopped
off at the Museum of the Battle of Normandy. We spent quite a lot of time here
and certainly increased our knowledge of this historic battle. Of course not
many Australians were involved but certainly USA, Britain and Canada were
heavily involved and lost many souls in an effort to free France from the
Germans. The mini-train picked us up and continued on the tour. Once back in
the main town area we went to our patisserie for lunch. Later we walked along
the river area and continued walking to visit the British Military Cemetery where
4,144 commonwealth soldiers who died in WW2 were buried.
PS We have the Min Min Man joining us in our travels, you will find him in some of our photos.
PPS It started raining heavily late this afternoon, photo and video added.
