Day 4 Mon 2/7 Pontorson to Bayeux

Today we moved from Pontorson to the town of Bayeux. We didn’t have to be at the station too early but decided to head down about an hour before the train was due to leave. The lady selling tickets at the station was so helpful and a bonus was that she spoke very good English. As we had plenty of time, she was able to help us with our tickets to Bayeux and then future tickets to a small station near Rouen and our return ticket to get us back to Charles De Gaul airport. With this all done we were joined a few other travellers from the UK and Australia and boarded our train. It was a fast train and we soon reached Bayeux. We were booked into an Airbnb and decided we could walk to it as it was only about 2 kms from the station. We managed to do this and were greeted by our host. As soon as we had settled in we decided to walk into the main part of this historic town. We stopped for some lunch and then visited a museum that housed the famous William the Conqueror tapestry. This tapestry which is over 900 years old, was housed in a very special museum. It is 70 metres long and tells the story of William the Conqueror. It was considered the first comic strip. It features on UNESCO’s “Memory of the World” Register. We had a special audio-guided tour which explained what was happening in all the panels while we were viewing them. Following this Lyn and I visited the magnificent Cathedral of Notre Dame in Bayeux and were absolutely blown away with the architecture of the building. Meanwhile the boys decided to hunt out a supermarket so they could stock up on groceries and drinks.
