We had decided to have a lazy day in our lovely accommodation
in Newark and catch up on a few jobs around the place. Heather and I went down
to the local laundromat and started the washing. It was like our laundromats
but on steroids! Below our apartment was a lovely little hairdressing salon and
nail and beauty bar. I needed to get my nails fixed so I went in there and met
the lovely staff and had my nails done while the washing was going. We had thought
that most of the people we met spoke Portuguese and all the signs in the local
shops and supermarket seemed to be in Portuguese. The young woman who did my
nails said that the majority of people who live in this area are from Brazil
but they all speak Portuguese. That explained a lot. We went to purchase some
things from the deli section of the supermarket and neither of the women who
served us could speak English! The boys were busy today booking our future
accommodation and also transport. We think we are sorted up until we leave Philadelphia
on the 8/8. This afternoon the weather became very humid. Large, dark clouds
gathered and the heavens opened up with huge thunderstorm. We received warnings
on our phone for possible flash flooding in our area but so far there has been
rain but not any flooding!
