Once again we met Heather and Paul for an early breakfast
so we could hop on the tourist bus and visit some more of the attractions. We
left the bus near the Ground Zero area to visit the memorial and the 9/11 Memorial
Museum. It was a very sobering visit for all of us. The beautiful, peaceful
pools which fill the huge holes in the ground the where the towers once stood
have the names of all the people who were killed in the attack on the world
trade centre, surrounding them. The museum was extremely well done and we
really could have spent the entire day there but unfortunately we didn’t have
time. We had booked to go on a free cruise which was part of our tourist bus
tickets. This brightened us up as the cruise took us out into the wide expanse
of the Hudson River where we were able to get magnificent views of the
surrounding city buildings, the statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Staten Island
Ferries etc. Following this we returned to the main part of the city for an
early tea and a short rest. We were back on the tourist bus at 7pm to do the
City by night tour. Although it wasn’t quite dark, this tour took us across the
Manhattan Bridge and we visited new areas we had not visited before. Again we
were very pleased with this excursion. There is just so much to see and do in
this huge city.
