Today we visited Jumieges Abbey, described as being “the
loveliest ruins in France” and it certainly lived up to its name. Again Robin
and Kevin did an amazing job driving us to Jumieges Abbey. Our drive included a
ferry crossing of the Seine River. The ruins of the Benedictine abbey date from
the 7th century and are quite spectacular. We wandered around the
ruins of the abbey and the extensive garden and park surrounding it. During the
French Revolution the abbey was sold as a national property and turned into a
stone quarry, hence the destruction. We stopped at a little café for lunch
before returning to the Chateau to prepare for a BBQ dinner. Rob and Steve did
a wonderful job cooking on the BBQ which had a few problems!!
