An unbelievable day in New York. We set out today to find
the Newark Penn Station and organise our tickets to Boston for Saturday and
also make our way back to New York City to do a tour of both Ellis and Liberty
Islands. We walked to the station and went to the information counter to find
out about tickets and while waiting there a man came up and said he loved my
pink hair and that I was “really rocking it!” Anyway I thanked him and then he
said “You guys aren’t from around here, where are you from?” We explained who
we were and he knew all about Australia and he was wearing a “Rabbitohs” cap
on. He then said that he was an agent for 2 guys who played this team. His
other job was as an ambassador for Tiffany’s on Wall Street. He wanted us to
come in and see him and he would give us a wine and show us around. Anyway we
made our way into New York City on the train and then walked to the pier to
take the cruise to Liberty and Ellis Islands. Both places were very interesting
and Rob was very impressed with the size of the Liberty lady. Heather and I
enjoyed the interesting museum on Ellis Island and we looked for any of our names
on the wall that had over 500,000 names of immigrants who passed through the
island. We did find 1 “Plush” but that’s all. Back in New York we decided to
visit Tony at Tiffany’s on Wall Street and Tony was true to his word. He hugged
us all when he saw us, chatted to us for quite a while, served us chilled white
wine and before left, gave Heather and myself……no not a diamond but a little
sample bag with 3 Tiffany perfume samples. We were pretty happy and said we’d
been more than happy for him to come and visit us if he ever made it to SA.
PS Don’t know what it was with my dirty, hot, sweaty, pink
hair today but on the train on the way home a lady said she loved my hair and
then again while Heather and I were leaving the supermarket another lady called
from the other side of the road that she loved my hair too!! Crazy.
