The day started early with Kevin and Robin kindly taking us
to the very small railway station 6 kms from the chateau at 6.30am in the
morning. Lyn and Steve were with us and were travelling to Paris by rail as
well. All went well with the first part of our journey. Our train arrived at
7.10am and took us into Rouen where we were booked on the next train to Paris.
Unfortunately with the rolling train strikes, this train had been cancelled and
we had to take the train leaving 1 hour later. This meant that Lyn and Steve
would not make their connecting train to Belgium from Paris and we would really
have to rush to get to Charles De Gaul airport to catch our flight to Iceland.
In the end, everything worked out. We managed to catch our flight (which was
then delayed by an hour and a half in Paris) and Steve and Lyn eventually made
it to their destination in Belgium all be it a little later than planned. On
our arrival to Iceland we were greeted with our first grey, drizzly weather and
it was a cool 12 degrees! We took the bus the 40kms or so into Reykjavik. The
land was very bare, no trees lots of rocks and cracks in the surface and low
bushes, grasses and moss everywhere. We arrived at our guest-house around
6.30pm Iceland time. We were meant to be there at 6pm for a meeting with the
tour group leader and the other guests but we just caught the end of it. From
what I can work out there are only 8 of us in this tour (normally 12) so that
is a good start. Hopefully I will find out more tomorrow as we start our tour.
