Day 6 Wednesday 4/7 Bayeux to Chateau Bosgouet

I really can’t believe I’m writing this from the most amazing place I have ever stayed in….but more of that later. We left our accommodation in Bayeux around 10.30 am. Our taxi which we thought we had booked for 10am did not turn up so we walked the 2kms to the train station. We had plenty of time so it didn’t really matter. We managed the train trip easily and negotiated one change of trains without any problems. We had struggled to be able to get a taxi company to understand English and pick us up from a very small railway station (Bourgtheroulde Thuit Hebert) about 6 kms from our accommodation so we contacted our hosts who came and picked us up within 30 minutes of arriving. They then drove us around to a road-side stop to get some lunch then onto the small town of Bourg-Achard to shop at a supermarket. From here we were taken to where we would be spending the next 7 nights…Chateau Bosgouet. The original part of the building dates back to the 1400s but after 2 fires the most recent rebuild was in the 1700s. A magnificent chateau with many rooms, filled with antiques and a place I could never have imagined I would ever stay in. During the afternoon other guests arrived and settled into their rooms. There are 22 of us staying here together. The owner of the chateau is Jane Webster and her husband from Melbourne. She is a well know cook and has written several books. She and her staff put on an amazing and delicious 3-course welcome dinner, before departing and leaving the chateau to us. After dinner we retired to our magnificent bedrooms for the night.
